Celebrate the Australian Summer with Seaside Themed Holiday Décor This Christmas

With the holiday season fast approaching, it’s time to start thinking about decorating your home.

In light of the warmer weather, which we are blessed with in the southern hemisphere, dare to be different this year with your holiday decorating by steering away from heavy, winter inspired festive looks and embrace beachside, coastal styles that will have your home radiating Christmas spirit whilst keeping in theme with the Australian summer.

Australia is lucky to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful beaches on earth and you may have many great memories about times you have spent on them. You may have collected shells as a child, or spent time in the rock pools finding starfish and other beautiful aquatic life. Tap into these memories with a seaside-themed Christmas tree. You can hang, shells, starfish, sea urchins and other marine-themed ornaments on the tree. You can also add to this by creating a similar themed garland and by decorating your tables and shelving with driftwood, shells and coral, all of which can be purchased cheaply online or perhaps start a family tradition of taking a  trip to the beach to collect items for your beach inspired Christmas decorating!

If you would still like the seaside look but are not overly into shells or aquatic animals as your feature, then go for something more tropical. Take your cues from destinations such as Hawaii or Fiji and dress your home with ocean blues, pink, green, orange and gold – these vibrant colours mimic the colours of the sea and the flora and fauna of the islands. The clever placement of palm leaves and citrus fruits on tables and in vases around the home is also a great way of intertwining this tropical vibe into your Christmas decorating.

If these two ideas are too much for you, take a few steps back and go for sophisticated Hampton’s look. Soft greens and blues go with with lots of textured whites and natural colours that will create a low-key summery look for your home this Christmas. You can even create a DIY Christmas tree with twigs and collect them in a sturdy vase. Hang little ornaments off them for a delicate, modern and easy Christmas tree!

But most importantly, have a very happy holiday season.
